How's it Made

 

Galvanized ion (GI) pipes are made by following as series of steps that coat steel pipes with zinc to make them more resistant to rust:

1. Prepareation and inspection:
The steel pipes are inspected to ensure they are suitable for galvanazation.

2. Degreasing and cleaning:
The pipes are thoroughly cleaned to remove any dirt, grease or oil.
3. Pickling:
The pipes are dipped in acid to remove any rough parts and create a smooth surface for the zinc coating.
4. Fluxing:
The pipes are coated with a special solution containing zinc and ammonium chloride.
5. Galvanizing bath:
The pipes are dipped into  bath of molten zinc that is around 842'F (450'C).
6. Quenching:
The pipes are quickly cooled in air or water to harden the zinc-steel mix and make it stick to the pipe.
7. Inspection and Testing:
The galvanized pipes are thoroughly checked.
8. Finishing:
The final steps are taken to make the pipes perfect.
