Product Description
Cutting Disc vs Grinding Disc
Cutting discs and grinding discs are two common abrasives used in industrial processing. They differ significantly in function, design, and application. Cutting discs are mainly used to quickly cut materials such as metal, stone, and plastic, and separate materials by high-speed rotation. Grinding discs are mainly used for grinding and polishing, and are suitable for removing burrs, rust, or surface finishing on the surface of materials.
1. Uses
- Cutting discs: As the name suggests, cutting discs are mainly used for cutting materials. Common applications include the separation of materials such as metal, stone, and plastic. Cutting discs cut materials directly through high-speed rotation and are usually used for straight-line cutting.
- Grinding discs: Grinding discs are mainly used for grinding, polishing, or removing burrs, rust, or irregular parts on the surface of materials. It does not directly separate the material like a cutting disc, but rather trims the surface or changes the surface roughness through grinding.
2. Structure and materials
- Cutting disc: Cutting discs are generally made of high-hardness abrasives (such as aluminum oxide or silicon carbide) and fixed by resin binders. These materials give the cutting disc the ability to remain sharp at high speeds.
- Grinding disc: Grinding discs are also made of high-hardness abrasives, but their structure emphasizes wear resistance and continuous grinding ability, and are often used for long-term grinding operations. The abrasives of grinding discs are arranged more densely, and there will be a reinforcement layer to enhance their pressure resistance and wear resistance.
- Cutting disc: When working, the cutting disc is operated perpendicular to the processed surface and the cutting is achieved through the outer edge of the disc. Therefore, it requires the angle and direction of operation to be very precise, otherwise it is easy to cause deviation or damage.
- Grinding disc: The polishing disc usually contacts the working surface at a certain angle to polish or trim in a smooth and uniform manner. When in use, it can control the surface treatment effect by changing the angle and force.
- Cutting disc: Commonly used in equipment such as angle grinders and cutting machines, and realizes the cutting function through high-speed rotation.
- Grinding disc: Mainly used on grinders, angle grinders can also be equipped with polishing discs for surface grinding.
