The double point safety harness has a connection point on the front an rear of the harness. The rear D ring is for fall arrest and the front is for fall restraint or rescue, this is because the rear D ring come up behind the head when deployed.
After selecting the correct lanyard, make sure it is attached properly. If it has a deceleration device, that device must be attached to the D ring. If it is a retractable, the casing must be attached to the anchor point. You can wear the system either way if the lanyard looks like a bungee cord.
Their role is to securely attach the worker's harness to an anchor, lifeline, or structure such as rebar in the case of chain rebar assemblies. A safety harness and lanyard system may be used to provide fall arrest protection and may also serve to position the worker such that both hands are free to work.
An attachment lanyard is a light duty tether worn around the neck, shoulder, wrist or attached to the belt as a sling to conveniently carry items such as keys or identification cards, or as a safety harness to prevent accidental dropping of valuable handheld items such as a camera.
For jobs that require 100% tie-off, a dual leg lanyard or double self-retracting lifeline utilizes both legs and keeps one attached to an anchor point and the other leg is free to move to the next anchor point before disengaging the first leg again, thus achieving the 100% tie-off.
