A catwalk, sometimes called a runway, is an elevated platform or walkway used for observation or to give workers access to hard-to-reach areas within a facility to service equipment, tanks, hoppers, silos, sortation systems, and industrial processing equipment.
Industrial catwalks are essential for worker safety and convenience, providing access to elevated areas in manufacturing and construction sites. With careful design and adherence to safety regulations, catwalks maximize space utilization and facilitate efficient operations across various industries.
Minimum width for a catwalk is 18 inches. If accessed by a stairway, the catwalk must be at least the width of the stairway, with a minimum of 22 inches. For catwalks accessed by IBC stairs, the minimum width is 36 inches.
Scaffolding Catwalk is a panel or plank laid across the structure to give workers a platform to move. It is a temporary platform used to elevate and support workers during a construction.
